shell and tube heat exchanger

Shell And Tube Heat Exchanger Sourcing is an independent sourcing partner for US buyers who need a shell and tube heat exchanger with named fluids on each side, a heat duty in kW, and a working pressure that the supplier can restate. Share quantity and destination so we can request comparable factory wholesale quotes. This site does not sell from stock and does not claim original-equipment identity. A published U-tube example such as 13/13 bar(g) on an open manufacturer sheet is a unit check, not this service’s supply promise. Plate exchangers are out of scope here.

Compare procurement cost boundaries

Machine

Shell, tubes, baffles, gaskets and named metallurgy, quoted as equipment until the supplier lists extras such as insulation, lifting lugs or a control skid.

Delivery

Packing, ocean or domestic freight, duties and insurance to the stated US destination remain separate lines unless the factory writes them into the same total.

Site

Foundations, piping tie-ins, cooling water, three-phase supply for auxiliaries, bundle pull space, installation, training and spare parts sit on site-cost lines.

No numerical saving claim without comparable quotations.

Compare procurement cost boundaries

A shell and tube heat exchanger RFQ is useful when machine, delivery and site work are split before factories guess. Heat duty without flow rate, viscosity and inlet temperatures is not a complete thermal brief. We collect those splits so manufacturers quote the same envelope rather than mixing installed project cost with a bare exchanger price.

Machine

Ask which tubesheet, baffle spacing and gasket set are included, and whether hydrostatic tests at the stated working pressure are inside the equipment line.

Delivery

State Incoterms, crate size versus footprint, and whether export documents are priced. Missing freight assumptions make two factory numbers incomparable.

Site

Name who welds process nozzles, who fills cooling water circuits, and who witnesses FAT. Those roles change the installed total more than a catalog kW figure.

Site interface register for a shell-and-tube duty

Connections to confirm
Interface Buyer input
Electrical Three-phase supply voltage, frequency in Hz and connected load in kW if pumps, fans or tracing are part of the quoted skid; omit invented kW for a passive exchanger.
Utilities Cooling water temperature and quality, steam flow in kg/h if used, compressed air demand only when actuators are included, and drain/vent routing.
Controls PLC interface names for any temperature or flow instruments on the package, plus whether those instruments are buyer-furnished.

Buyer questions before a comparable RFQ

Which procurement scope is covered by shell and tube heat exchanger?
What changes between products?

Record whether the next campaign changes shell-side or tube-side fluid, viscosity, fouling tendency or design temperature. Each change can require a different fouling allowance, gasket and cleaning method. A clean-service demonstration does not prove a dirty-service duty cycle.

What must be cleaned or replaced?

Ask which gaskets, sacrificial anodes, spare tube plugs and cleaning tools are included versus consumable, and whether chemical cleaning or mechanical bundle extraction is assumed after changeover. Those items often sit outside a base-machine line.

How is the first good output verified?

Agree how outlet temperature, flow rate and pressure drop will be measured at a named operating point, then record leakage checks at the channel and shell joints. Keep that record so FAT language can repeat the same trial.

Which fluid is assigned to each side and why, and which responsibilities stay with supplier versus buyer?

Place the fouling or higher-pressure stream where the supplier can justify cleaning access and mechanical design. The supplier confirms thermal calculation assumptions; the buyer owns process data, destination logistics and contract acceptance. Engineering sign-off is not transferred to this sourcing service.
